Mountain Electronics has been an industry leader in circuit board repair for the commercial laundry industry since its founding in 1999. Whitney and George Barrington purchased the business from the company’s founder and former owner Jason Berry in 2005, after they had both been longtime employees. After acquiring the company it has continued to grow their team of skilled technicians and customer service representatives. Currently Mountain Electronics serve approximately 4,000 active customers in all fifty states.

In 2015 Mountain Electronics partook in the ScaleUp WNC program led by Mountain BizWorks to find ways to continue growing their business at an accelerated rate. Since then, in 2017 Mountain Electronics was awarded an economic development grant of $25,000 from Yancey County to support their reuse of a 57,205 square foot former jean manufacturing facility within the county. This funding allowed them to relocate from their 4,000 square foot facility into a 10,000 square foot facility housed in the large facility, giving them the space to expand as they grow to meet the industry’s demand. “Their move into a larger facility will enable them to add additional employees and increase their capacity, allowing them to grow into an even more dominant force in their business sector,” said Yancey County Planning & Economic Development Director Jamie McMahan.

As part of their expansion, Mountain Electronics has committed to creating five new jobs, taking their total number of full time employees to twenty. The company’s own five-year goal is to double their current staff, adding at least three employees per year through 2022. They believe that with this strategy they will be able to keep up with the growing industry demands.
